What is the Vacaville Early College High School Program?

The primary goal of the Vacaville Early College High School program is to prepare students for college success by providing students with rigorous coursework and college classes beginning in ninth grade. It is an educational partnership between the Vacaville Unified School District and Solano Community College. This is a program of available to ALL 8th grade students who will be starting high school in the upcoming school year beginning in August and located at Will C. Wood High School (WCW). The program provides an innovative academic environment designed to serve motivated students with high potential for future academic and career success.

The program is structured to provide successful, challenging, and meaningful experiences for all students, especially beneficial for students who are from family demographics that are typically underrepresented in college. Additionally, these students may be the first in their family to attend and complete college. Students entering this program will have the expectation of completing four years of studies in science and mathematics. Students are offered the opportunity to earn a high school diploma while meeting university entrance requirements by taking A-G high school coursework. Early College High School curriculum will also focus on career exploration and college readiness. Students will be challenged to complete college courses for which they receive college credit, culminating in a high school diploma and up to 60 transferable college credits (possibly earning an Associates degree) within the 4-year academic program. It is expected that graduates will go on to pursue and complete higher education degrees at a 4-year college or university.

Our program began with 9th grade students in the 2013-2014 school year, with another class added each year thereafter.  VECHS now consist of all grade levels.

Students in this non-traditional high school program will have a daily schedule that is a combination of traditional and block scheduling. The schedule will allow for additional flexibility as students enroll in SCC courses.
